About NUJS

The National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) was established in the year 2000. The University, in the span of the last ten years has become one of the premier institutions in the field of legal learning and education in the country. Situated in Salt Lake City, Kolkata, the cultural capital of the country, the University is a healthy mix of students from all over India and abroad.

Students that have passed out from NUJS are working in top law firms in India and abroad, some are practicing in courts and some have entered the field of legal academics and are teaching in India and abroad. Many of the NUJS students have been awarded prestigious scholarships such as Rhodes, Felix and Chevening for higher studies in the United Kingdom and also in the United States and other leading universities.

Established over a decade ago, the University has had a truly dream-like spell. NUJS has been consistently ranked amongst the top 3 law schools in the country (Ranked 2nd by Outlook magazine [2009], Ranked 3rd Mint). NUJS has also hosted numerous academic lectures by Noble laureates like Joseph Stiglitz and Amartya Sen, Magasese awardees like Aruna Roy and is also visited by luminaries like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Dr. Shashi Tharoor on a fortnightly basis for Informal Discussions. The university has not only firmly established itself as one of the finest law colleges in India but its achievements - legal, sporting, literary, cultural - have convincingly catapulted it into the league of premier institutions globally.

NUJS has been organizing a national level corporate law moot court competition in association with Herbert Smith, one of the world’s largest law firms since 2009. The university also successfully organizes one of India’s largest parliamentary debates. On the cultural front, we have been associated with SPICMACAY and have hosted artists such as Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya (2009) amongst others.
